HAN, Hot August Nights Reno Line Up

HAN, Hot August Nights Reno

I love Hot August Nights!  This is the biggest event of the year in Reno.

Classic cars are so cool and there will be 5,500 registered participants plus all those others just coming to join the fun!  There’s lots of entertainment, much of it free.  Headline names will include Herman’s Hermits, Davy Jones of the Monkees, BJ Thomas, and Blood, Sweat & Tears.

Nice Car!

There will be plenty of people watching in the crowds of Reno while the era of fast cars and rock ‘n roll is relived.  Expect action, rumbling and tunes.  Check out this YouTube video for fun Hot August Nights Reno

Are you bringing your pride and joy to the event?  Why not consider cruisin away from the crowd and partake in America’s Most Beautiful Drive with your cherry classic?  This is a scenic journey unlike any in the world.  Check out this brochure (pdf format available) that is designed to guide you through many of the natural and man-made wonders in the Lake Tahoe Basin, all on The Most Beautiful Drive in America

Bring your “cool” car to the “cool” mountains and beautiful Lake Tahoe, Zephyr Cove, Stateline, Lake Village and more.  We have vacation rentals for you to stay at, many with private garages for your cherished classic.  Visit www.laketahoevacations.com or call 1-800-624-3887

Lights on the Lake 2008;  Fabulous 4th of July Fireworks Celebration!

Lake Tahoe Boating on the 4th of JulyWhen I first came to Lake Tahoe, I had no idea that our Lake hosted one of the top five fireworks display in the Nation! This 30 minute fireworks show synchrozined to music should not be missed. You will be amazed by the many patterns, lights, designs and shapes made more spectacular by the combination of music and the absolute beauty of Lake Tahoe.  Listen to one of our local stations KRLT-FM  93.9 or KOWL-AM 1490 (sorry I-pod users, you have to use the old fashioned radio) and stake out a spot at one of the many viewing locations around the lake.  I got these viewing suggestions from the Lake Tahoe Visitor Authority, but would love to hear from you if you have others…

Plus, Tahoe Management Services Co. is offering great discounts on their remaining cabins, condos and large homes.   Check out the website www.tahoevacations.com or call 800-624-3887 for the great deal and with Nan’s 25 years of Tahoe experience you know you are dealing with the best!

  • The Tahoe Queen and M.S. Dixie II: South Shore’s two Mississippi paddlewheelers offer a unique opportunity to view the light show from the water. Board the Tahoe Queen for a Dinner Dance Cruise or the M.S. Dixie II for a Fireworks Cruise. Both feature live entertainment and fantastic views of the evening’s display. Log onto www.laketahoecruises.com.
  • Tallac Historic Site: The Valhalla Arts & Music Festival will host a holiday barbecue at Tallac Vista. The quiet, off-the-beaten-track spot on Emerald Bay Road has a stunning view looking east across Lake Tahoe toward the fireworks.
  • Nevada Beach: Located about two miles east of the Nevada casinos on Elk Point Road, Nevada Beach is the ideal setting for a family barbecue at the beach. A wide, sandy shoreline leads down to the sapphire waters of Lake Tahoe. Charcoal barbecues and picnic tables dot the beach. The view across the lake to the West Shore and Desolation Wilderness is unsurpassed. And the view of the fireworks display is one of the best in town.
  • Regan and El Dorado Beaches: Located right where Highway 50 meets the Lake, these connecting stretches of narrow beach are front and center for the fireworks. Arrive early! These beaches fill up with people who love to be right under the action.
  • Bijou Community Park: Set back from the shoreline on the corner of Johnson and Al Tahoe Blvds., Bijou Community Park affords a great view of the fireworks without the hustle and bustle of the beaches. Amenities at the park include restrooms, a skate park, a disc golf course, a playground, and an exercise circuit. The park is a great setting for families with young children.
  • Baldwin Beach: Located about 5 miles down Emerald Bay Road and backed by the Tallac Historic Site, this narrow stretch of white sand beach has great views looking east toward the downtown area of South Shore. Public parking, restrooms, picnic facilities, fire pits, and barbecue grills are available.

Vacation Rental Dining RoomSo, you’re staying with your 3 kids at your vacation rental in Tahoe, and you want to treat your spouse to a romantic candle-lit dinner in your dining room overlooking the Lake. How do you get some quality time alone, without worrying about the kids? Send them on a vacation within a vacation at the Tahoe Kids’ Camp.

Kids\' CampKids’ Camp has been showing kids a good time at Lake Tahoe for over 15 years. They take groups of 15 kids for 6 hours during the day, or 4 hours in the evening on hikes around like Tahoe, to swimming pools, bowling alleys, arcades, and more. So, your kids can have their fun while you have yours.

What we like most about Kids’ Camp is that it’s not just a babysitting service: it’s an experience kids get excited about having. Getting a little alone time is just a bonus for us parents! We know our vacation rental guests value flexibility and Kids’ Camp gives you just that.

Lots of people know about Lake Tahoe’s crystal clear waters, but did you know that there’s a famous hot-spring resort just 20 minutes away from its south shore? Walley’s Resort hosts 7 natural mineral hot-spring pools, a spa, and some of the best dining and wine in the area. In its 135 year history it’s hosted both Mark Twain and Clark Gable, so it’s the place to go if you want celebrity caliber relaxation.

While you can ski Heavenly Ski Resort until May 4 this year, it’s already warm enough to start golfing in the valley below! So, come up and enjoy the Tahoe tradition of skiing in the morning and golfing in the afternoon. Here are our 3 favorite courses for spring golf in Tahoe:

Genoa Lakes

Genoa Lakes Resort CourseOffers two award winning courses for golf connoisseurs, or people who just love a truly beautiful golf course. The Lakes Course is a links style through scenic wetlands and the Carson River. The Resort Course runs across the rollicking Sierra Nevada foothills, challenging its players’ distance and power, but offering beautiful views of the Mountains in return.

Eagle Valley

Eagle Valley GolfOffers two courses as well. The East Course is flat, wide open, and perfect for beginning golfers and their friends. The West Course kicks it up a notch, featuring abrupt elevation changes and water hazards that will challenge your accuracy.

Carson Valley

Carson Valley GolfThis course criss-crosses over the Carson River under the shade of beautiful cotton wood trees. You’ll be hitting across water on nearly half the holes!

Genoa Lakes and Carson Valley are just a 30 minute drive from Heavenly, and Eagle Valley is about 45 minutes. Did we leave one out? Let us know what your favorite Tahoe-area courses for spring golfing are!
