Golf Paradise

October 31, 2009

Most golfers who have visited Lake Tahoe are aware of the many extraordinary courses available here. The only problem is that when the snows of winter set in all those challenging fairways and greens are buried for months under several feet of that cold white stuff.

Ah, but all isn’t lost for the avid golfer because there exists a group of great courses just down the mountain in Carson City and the Carson Valley  that are open year round.

Called the Divine Nine, they are easily accessible from your Tahoe Vacation Rental via US 50 over Spooner Summit or State Route 207 (Kingsbury Grade).

David Walley’s Hot Springs

March 7, 2008

Lots of people know about Lake Tahoe’s crystal clear waters, but did you know that there’s a famous hot-spring resort just 20 minutes away from its south shore? Walley’s Resort hosts 7 natural mineral hot-spring pools, a spa, and some of the best dining and wine in the area. In its 135 year history it’s hosted both Mark Twain and Clark Gable, so it’s the place to go if you want celebrity caliber relaxation.

Hot Spring Pools

Mineral infused water heated beneath the earth’s crust bubbles up to the surface into 7 different pools. You can relax in these pools in the shadow of the High Sierra Mountains, and enjoy a steam room and dry saunas.

Spa

Walley’s offers both Swedish and deep tissue massage as well as a whole menu of facials, including a couple just for men!

Wine and Dine

Wine Spectator magazine has given Walley’s wine selection an award of excellence. They offer 300 wines, 34 by the glass. The contemporary American cuisine is some of the best around too. In addition to the regular menu items, the chef prepares a new special entrée every night using the fresh ingredients at hand.
